Navigating Tax Returns in a Divorce CLE Course

Kanter Financial Forensics is now offering Florida law firms and bar associations a continuing education course on the topic “Navigating Tax Returns in Divorce Cases.”

This course will teach family law attorneys how and when to use personal and business tax returns to prepare the financial affidavit in a divorce matter. Attendees will learn how to accurately identify income, assets, debts, and expenses, thereby facilitating equitable settlements. Information covered during the session includes the following:

      • Using Tax Return Analysis for the Family Law Financial Affidavit

      • Individual Tax Returns: Form 1040 Overview

      • Schedule A: Itemized Deductions

      • Business Tax Returns: Schedule K-1 and Ownership insights

      • Additional Business Schedules

      • Ethics Considerations in Tax Return Analysis

Tax returns reveal critical financial details like income, assets, and liabilities during divorce proceedings. Understanding Form 1040 for individuals aids attorneys in analyzing personal financial situations. Additionally, business tax schedules like Schedule A, K-1, C, and M-1 provide insight into business finances impacting divorce settlement.

The course is approved by The Florida Bar for 1.0 General and 0.5 Professionalism CLE credits. The certification credits apply to tax law as well as marital and family law. The 50-minute course can be taught in person by CPA Brad Kanter or as a webinar.

A CLE course can be arranged by contacting Brad Kanter via phone at 813-820-1068 or email at contact@yni.59e.myftpupload.com.
